Premium Hertex Fabric Disintegrates on First Wash

Title: Premium Hertex Fabric Completely Disintegrated on First Wash – Very Disappointing Quality Review: I am extremely disappointed with the quality and service of fabric supp**** by Hertex, especially given the premium price and brand reputation. the fabric was advertised as upholstery which is expected to take high traffic and last many many years, or at least a decade, if not multiple decades. (Definately only a few years) I purchased “Night Garden” fabric (±R975 per metre) which I used to make 2 scatter cushion covers. The total cost including making was R2,385 — a significant investment for decorative items that were expected to last. These scatters were used in a low-traffic sitting room, not exposed to direct sunlight, and were rarely handled. I deliberately avoided washing them for years to preserve their quality. Recently, I decided to gently hand-wash them for the first time: Washed in room-temperature water Used mild Woolite detergent No scrubbing or harsh handling Light rinse only Result: Severe fading of colour Fabric tearing and disintegration with large whole in multiple places. Almost like it disolved. Covers completely ruined after the first wash At the same time, I washed 2 other scatter covers made from a different Hertex fabric (“Three of a Kind”) using the exact same method — those remain perfectly intact, with no fading or damage. As well as two storebaught cover from two different shops. Hertex’s response was: The product is discontinued The damage is attributed to “wear and tear” and environmental factors The 6-month warranty has expired No replacement or credit offered My concern: This is not reasonable wear and tear. A premium fabric should not disintegrate on its first gentle wash after limited use. The fact that another Hertex fabric washed under identical conditions was unaffected strongly points to a defect or quality inconsistency in this specific fabric. For future buyers: Do not assume Hertex products are durable or long-lasting Price does not reflect longevity or quality in this case Be cautious, especially with viscose/linen blends Issues like this may only appear long after purchase, outside warranty 👉 Based on my experience, I would not recommend purchasing Hertex fabric. You are far better off buying from stores like Metro or similar at a fraction of the price (around 10%), as those fabrics have proven to be far more durable and reliable over time — without any of the issues experienced here. Expectation: I would have expected better durability and customer support from a premium brand. At the very least, a quality concern of this nature should be taken seriously rather than dismissed purely on warranty timelines. At R2500 for 2 scatters, i could have replaced them, twice already with store-bought ones and they would stil have been intact. I feel cheated. And its also not the first time.
