Help24 Tow Trucks taking advantage of accident victims

I was in an accident in Auckland park on 15/03/17, tow trucks from help24 arrived immediately on scene and requested to tow my vehicle to an assessment center for a1 assist. They were very helpful in everything that took place, giving advice, talking about them being a Outsurance assessment centre etc.

So I have heard about tow truck ****s before and so before towing the car we asked the driver of the tow truck about costs and how much it would be for them to tow the vehicle to the assessment centre. At first he was very vague and said he would not charge anything up front but when we pressed for an amount he said it would be R 750 maximum. The car seemed drivable but the tow truck driver told us the airbag might deploy and there is water leak at the radiator (which there was not when we checked the next day) but in that shock state we believed him.

The next day I called A1 assist to retrieve my vehicle but to my surprise they said that they refused to release my vehicle if I did not pay R 4 503 first. I told them what their driver had said but they refused to budge claiming that the cost was for the tow and storage and and. Apparently they had waived all other charges or I'd be paying R 9 000.

So I paid the R 4 503 to remove my vehicle from their premises.

I would just like to warn other drivers about the ************ manner in which Help 24 tow truck drivers and A1 Assist works.

It is despicable of them taking advantage of accident victims who are in shock. We were lucky that we did have money to remove the car. Imagine the poor people who don’t have money. How will they get their vehicles back.

Absolute ******** Help24 and A1 Assist.

Kind regards
Trinesh Baroon
