Uncaring Staff
A friend who had overdosed in this morning was admitted to Helen Joseph at about 10. The nurse on duty got upset with me when I suggested she replace the saline bag that was empty - saying that 'the doctor is coming'. she got a bag put it at the end of the bed and then called security to have me removed! My friend was flailing her hands and was very agitated - also unconscious - I was soothing her and holding her hands down so her drip did not come out. I was appalled that the nurse did not ask me herself and was further disappointed by her unsympathetic attitude. I did leave but was extremely anxious about my friend's condition. A bit later the doctor called me in. He was distant and 'professional' but I did not feel any empathy or caring. He seemed efficient and I left her assuming that good care would be taken. Her son saw her to the ward and he reported that he left her at 3. I called in the evening to find out how she was doing. I was horrified to be told that her condition remained unchanged and that NOTHING had been done to remedy the situation. This means that she was left to process the meds she had overdosed on at 5 in the morning without any intevention. I am so worried.
