LIES and DECEPTION.

This was my first visit to Johannesburg, South Africa. I got in touch with Heather Leas Estates through a friend of mine as I was in need of an apartment for rent. And after a few viewings I zeroed down on an apartment I liked. Everything was very nice in the beginning. Heather made sure that everything was in order and that I got the apartment in good conditions.

Apart from a few hiccups during my 6-month stay, I had no real complaints. The problem arose when I left. I had to leave the country a week before I lease was over and with the COVID-19 scare, there was a little hurry. Even though I and my wife made sure that we left the apartment in good condition. Heather herself came in for an inspection and found everything was in order and assured me that I would get my full deposit back.

A month after I left, I received my deposit and noticed that she had deducted R1200 from my deposit. I was shocked. On asking she came up with all kinds of reasons. The refrigerator that was cleaned, and she applauded us for keeping it clean, suddenly became dirty. Even after ensuring that we threw all trash out, our place was suddenly filled with trash. She mentioned during her inspection that she understands that there might be some last minute cleaning required and a **** would come in to take care of that, at our cost. We agreed and left R250 for the **** to come in and clean up (only a sweep and mopping would have been enough). But all this changed into a trashy apartment that required R1200 + R250 to clean. She even agreed to refund the entire amount on email after the inspection, that she later rescinded from.

R1450 for cleaning a 1 bedroom apartment, is a lot. and we definitely didn't leave our apartment in that state. On asking for reasons, all we got were lies. VERY HURTFUL & DISAPPOINTING.
