Pretentious Service - They Get Your Deposit and Disappear
I ordered and Riser Recliner Seat in August 2023 for my 97 year old dad after a sales demo at our home. The manufacturing and delivery period was estimated at 4-6 weeks. After not hearing from the company at the end of October, I decided to phone them. To my shock, they had not even started manufacturing the seat. I immediately asked them to refund the deposit.....but it has been a cycle of back and forth since October 2023 to day February 2024….I have still not got my deposit back.

09 Feb 2024, 18:13The company shares the same website, but operating under two names.
I attached order confirmation email in the previous response.
When they made the presentation at home, I was not informed prior that I would need to pay deposit via a mobile point of sale system. Upon the salesperson mention of this, I told him that I would only do a credit card payment of R6000 and then he must email me their banking details for me to pay deposit when I returned to the office on the 11 October 2023.
When I returned to the office on 11 October 2023, there was no email from them with banking details, but the confirmation of order email. My deduction of this was that the balance of payment would then be made with the rest of the outstanding balance prior to delivery. There was not further communication from my payment of 6000 up until I phoned to check on the progress, somewhere in November/ December after the lead time to delivery had elapsed.
My views are true and not biased. The only inaccuracy in my post was the mention of the month of August instead of October 2023 as the month in which I ordered the seat.
My father is 97, I would not be taking such an expensive decision to buy him a comfortable seat in the state of his fragile health with the intention of reneging on it or wasting the time of the seller, especially after he had tested it and was very excited with how he felt seating in that chair.
If the deposit amount I paid was not enough, why did they confirm order placement?

We have not disappeared as you have alleged but have maintained open lines of communication with you, unfortunately your potentially libelous and emotive claim is most likely motivated by the fact that you haven't been able to achieve the outcome you wish from this matter. Despite your claim that we have "disappeared", we have delivered dozens of recliners, since you placed your order, to many satisfied clients.
You were unable to pay the full deposit and committed to the advisor that you would pay it by that Friday as it is stated on the order of which you signed and received a copy of. Furthermore, the order states the value of the deposit required of which you paid less than half. The sales advisor has the banking details with him on both his tablet and a printed copy which would have been the easiest way to provide it to you and is how we will normally provide it to our clients through the normal course of business. He has no recollection of stating that he would provide it to you via e-mail. That said, as you have stated that you were advised that you had paid a lower amount than required for deposit, that the balance of the deposit was still due and you committed to make payment by that Friday, your argument is based on your assumption that since you received a confirmation of the order and no banking details, which you had alleged were promised, that you no longer had to make payment of the balance of deposit. All our clients receive an immediate copy of their order as any reputable company should provide a copy of the order to their clients.
Most furniture companies who manufacture bespoke goods require a far higher deposit than we do and balance of payment is due before dispatching the goods. We only require payment of the balance on delivery, however, will not dispatch any goods until such time as the full deposit has been paid and as the goods still had to be freighted from Cape Town with a furniture freight specialist to our Gauteng distribution centre and then dispatched, we couldn't meet your demands of an almost immediate delivery. We did offer to deliver it within the timeframe referred to on your agreement once we received the balance of deposit, however you rejected that offer.
We offer all our clients 7 days to cancel their orders from date of order, which is not a legal requirement, but a company policy in the interest of customer service and satisfaction. Unfortunately, your request to cancel was significantly outside that period and we are not required by law or regulations to cancel and refund you. In addition, we have expenses significantly higher than the deposit you paid, which we must now attempt to recover.

While we endeavour to provide our clients with excellent service, be accommodating and adaptive to their requests and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction, we simply cannot comply with your demands which will have significant cost implications to ourselves despite having both offered the service, manufacturing the product and having every intention of fulfilling the order once you had met your obligations to the contract.

12 Feb 2024, 09:48Mr Kanga,
We have already explained the matter to you in detail and your questions posed appear to be circumnavigating the facts of the case, the information supp**** to you and your agreement regarding the balance of the deposit at the time of your demonstration. Advising you that you are required to pay a deposit on an amount that is unknown to us would not only be nonsensical, it would be implying that there is an expectation for you to purchase and we offer a no obligation free home demonstration. As previously mentioned, we have incurred more expenses than your deposit will cover, so your allegation of us intentionally planning to retain your R6000 is completely false. Finally it was you that did not fulfill your obligation to the contract by not paying the balance of deposit as required.
We have engaged with you previously and on this platform and we do not see how we can assist you further in this matter.
