Disappointment reclining chair for disabled

My mother bought her reclining chair at for R31000 at Willowbrook Recliners on 22 Feb 2019 with 1 Yr guarantee.

Approximately 25yrs ago she purchased a custom made adjustable bed from their Century City office, which is a wonderful product and due to her showing and doing demos, three friends have also invested in this product. She was diagnosed with FSHD (Facioscapulahumeral Muscular Dystrophy) in an advanced stage.

Her balance is very poor and the slightest incline or decline couldd cause her to fall. She contacted Century City office, from where her bed was purchased. A representative was sent to demonstrate the chair and suggested the Venetian chair to be the most suitable for her needs.

As she cannot stand up from any chair anymore, she thought this is just what she needed. So after saving up and myself and sister, as her children scratching for cash to assist her, she bought the chair. What a disappointment!!!

Before the guarantee was finished the technician had to come out because the chair took long to recline. Apparently the working mechanism packed up and had to be replaced . She was not warned that the synthetic leather was so slippery and nearly slipped off twice, this is not suitable for someone with a disability. She sent the Co an email saying she would have to upholster the chair in material but the quoted price is more than double upholsterers prices and totally unaffordable to her receiving state pension.

The latest fault that occurred is that the armrest cover had a little hole from who knows what and now looks terrible as all the leather started peeling off. And now the headpiece also started making bubbles, and tearing. This is the most pathetic thing, and for the price paid, NOT WORTH THE MONEY. For it to start peeling after 1 year!

A few days ago she had to phone the store again, as the chair AGAIN is not reclining. BUT now she has to pay a R650 callout fee. Which is INSANELY high. What makes it even more upsetting, is that the mechanism that needs to recline the chair, has now failed TWICE in little over a year.

This chair is like a reject product and big disappointment. She now tries to cover it because she is embarrassed to show this to friends and family. This will be a very sad story to share with family, friends and the members of our disability foundation, as the material is not suitable for someone with a disability, as well as the product being poor. This product is not worth the money paid for.
