Double Payment due to the claim on settled bill

Visted the center for medical consultation and settled my bill cash on 8th of October. the bill that was settled in cash was also claimed and settled by the medical aid. Only to discover this when the medical aid refused to payment for the claim. While if you owe them even 2 cents they would sent sms notifications, they did not notify me that they had claimed the same bill that I had settled.
