HealthSquared Medical Aid not covering hospital procedures that other medical aids are covering in full!

My housemate and I both belong to health squared medical aid. I had to have a procedure for varicose veins earlier in the year, but the medical aid rejected most of the codes saying they were duplicates. The strange thing is that ALL other medical aids are covering this procedure in full. When I supp**** this evidence to the pre authorisation team, they increased the amount they were prepared to pay by R12000 but this still meant they would only cover about R15000 of the R36000 quoted. I had to cancel my procedure as I cannot afford this and I can live with the pain and discomfort. Then my housemate had to have hand surgery and we experienced the same thing: codes seen as duplicate and irrelevant but ALL other medical aids are covering this exact procedure, code for code, in full. Again, evidence was sent to Healthsquared to prove that other medical aids are covering this in full but they have not improved their cover: They initially said they would cover approximately R6000 of the R22000 doctor's account, but when checking on the website, they have covered under R3000! The doctor's bill has worked out to be closer to R28000 so I have to find R25000!!! This was surgery that could not be avoided as it is causing pain and loss of function and will only get worse if left. To make matters worse, because they have rejected the codes, my gap cover will not kick in. They asked for a motivation from the surgeon, which she provided. They did not cover the doctor's fee for this. When following up with them about not covering, they requested “a comprehensive clinical letter of motivation detailing the rationale for each of the declined tariff codes”? Surgeons don't have time to fight our medical aids for us and should not have to do more than the initial motivation. Surely they know what codes they are going to be using if they are any good at what they do? Why are other medical aids covering these procedures in full but not Healthsquared? We are already looking for an alternative medical aid as we cannot stay with a medical aid that does not cover hospital procedures. Pathetic. So sad as we were initially with Spectramed and they were brilliant, but then started deteriorating. We then moved to Resolution and they were also initially very good but have lately also started deteriorating. But now that Spectramed and Resolution have merged, things have reached rock bottom. I would suggest that we all get out as what are we paying for?
