H.C. Maritz Roofers- Avoid them like the Plague!

In October 2023 we had the misfortune of contracting with Hennie Maritz of HC Maritz Roofers to do roof repairs for our leaking roof. With supposedly 52 years experience in roofing, we thought this was a safe choice. The quote was not cheap, but seemed to indicate a good standard of work could be expected. We paid a hefty 50% deposit upfront. Well, from the very start, the work was substandard. They continually tried to take shortcuts and we had to constantly point this out to them and ask them to re-do properly. Hennie got very cross when we did this and the work continued in a sub-standard manner. They damaged our house walls and some paving with splatter from the silver coating paint they used. Hennie finally walked off the job, without completing the work properly. The roof was left in a mess, with debris strewn across the work area. He demanded remaining payment, saying we were backed by his written 5 year warranty/guarantee and he assured us the roof would not leak anymore. Well, the 1st heavy rains came in November- and the roof leaked badly. I called Hennie and he finally came to look. He did another half -repair/patch-up and said he could not continue because it was going to rain. Since then, we have been trying to get hold of Hennie to come back and finish the work, to no avail. He ignores my text messages and phone calls. I tried again this year, and it seems he, and his wife who helps him, have blocked my number. Hennie: *** / ***/ ***. Wife Collette: *** Address: 372 Vine Street, Ferndale. It is shocking that companies like this continue to operate and stay in business. They give the industry a bad name. There is no work ethic or pride in anything they do. And then finally, they do not honour their supposed guarantee/warranty either. So, we have lost a large sum of money to these ************ people, and still have a leaking roof. I only hope that by publishing this review/complaint we can prevent other innocent people from being fleeced by this company. If you are looking for a Roofing/roof repair company, steer well clear of HC Maritz Roofers - they are bad news!
