Absolutely Despicable.

I went to Hazyview Sun on the 1st January 2024, with a family member. We had already booked online via a travel booking app. On that app, they allowed us to cancel our booking before 18:00 and we got there at around 16:30 on the same day.

When we got there, we told the receptionist about our option to cancel our booking before 18:00. She confirmed that it was okay. She then gave us our room key, and told us our room was ready. On the way there to our room, in the hallways, there was a wet, musty smell, probably the smell of the hallway carpet. When we opened our room door, we noticed 2 workers who were making our beds. When they saw us, they( quite rudely) asked us what we were doing there. We answered that we believed that our room was ready, according to the receptionist.

We then left and sat outside (with our bags), by a patio (close to the reception)for 30 minutes, as they finished attending to our room. We noticed that it was quite busy, loud and that other guests were also having issues with their rooms.

When they finally finished, and we got to our room, we were appalled by the site. The carpeted floor in our room had the SAME BUT WORSE awful , wet and dirty smell the carpet in the hallway had. The shower was FILTHY, with limescale buildup on the glass doors, the toilet chamber was STAINED, along with the bath-towels and mats. The furniture was aged and smelly, the table and nightstand were DUSTY. We couldn’t even sit on our bed because we weren’t sure if the linen was clean.

We later decided to leave ( We left at 17:40) and when we told the receptionist, we asked her one final time, if there would be a cancellation fee if we cancelled before 18:00, and she said no. About 2 days after, our card was charged for a cancellation fee! Even after we had asked the receptionist twice, we were charged!

The issue was later resolved with the hotel, only after a couple of months and at our insistence. We received our money back but we’ll never get the time we wasted back. I do not recommend Hazyview Sun, and it seems as if the quality of some of the Southern Sun hotel rooms have also depreciated over time. The service of the concierge also seemed quite sub-par, perhaps due to the number of guests there.
