Subject: Formal Complaint – Vehicle Defect, Warranty Dispute and Request for Immediate Resolution
Dear Haval,
I am extremely disappointed with the way this matter has been handled.
I purchased and financed this vehicle in 2024, at a time when I had just found out that I had cancer. I was going through an extremely vulnerable period in my life, and I was simply trying to put certain things in place without knowing what the future was going to look like.
A few months after purchasing the vehicle, my health deteriorated, I lost my hair and had to deal with everything that came with my diagnosis and treatment. During this period, the last thing I needed was to be dealing with a vehicle that was already developing serious problems.
The clutch started giving me problems, and because I was in a vulnerable state and did not want to involve my children in the situation, I took the vehicle to the nearest Haval dealership, which was in Lenasia.
I am now being told that there is no warranty coverage for the vehicle and that I am expected to pay approximately R30,000 to have the clutch repaired.
My question is simple: How is this acceptable?
I purchased this vehicle from Haval and financed it through the bank. I have repeatedly raised concerns that this vehicle has had problems from the beginning, yet instead of properly investigating the matter and determining whether the vehicle was defective or had an underlying issue when it was sold to me, I am now being moved from one dealership to another and ultimately expected to carry the financial burden myself.
Furthermore, when I took the vehicle to the Lenasia dealership, I expected them to communicate with the dealership from which I originally purchased the vehicle and properly escalate the matter. That did not happen in the manner I expected, and I am now left dealing with the consequences.
I cannot simply accept a R30,000 repair bill for a vehicle that I believe has had an underlying problem from the outset.
This raises serious concerns for me about the manner in which this vehicle was sold, inspected and subsequently handled when I reported problems. I was in a particularly vulnerable position at the time, and I trusted that purchasing a vehicle from an established manufacturer and financing it through a bank meant that I was purchasing a vehicle that was fit for purpose and properly supported.
Instead, I now feel that the responsibility is simply being passed from one person or dealership to another while I am expected to pay.
I am therefore formally requesting that Haval:
1. Review the complete history of this vehicle, including its inspection, sale, warranty status and previous reported issues. 2. Investigate the clutch failure and determine whether there is evidence of an underlying or pre-existing defect. 3. Explain why the warranty does not cover this issue and provide the specific contractual basis for that decision. 4. Explain why the Lenasia dealership did not properly liaise with the dealership from which I originally purchased the vehicle. 5. Provide me with a formal written resolution rather than continuing to refer me from one dealership to another. 6. Explain what Haval intends to do about the approximately R30,000 repair cost.
At this stage, I am not prepared to simply accept responsibility for a repair of this magnitude when I have consistently maintained that there has been a problem with this vehicle from the outset.
If Haval is unwilling to resolve this matter properly, I will have to consider escalating the matter through the appropriate consumer and legal channels and will also engage with the bank regarding the vehicle finance.
Please come and collect your vehicle and advise me in writing what Haval intends to do to resolve this matter.
I am extremely disappointed. I trusted the Haval brand when I purchased this vehicle, and this experience has left me questioning whether that trust was misplaced.
I would not currently recommend purchasing a vehicle from Haval based on the manner in which my complaint has been handled.
I expect a formal response addressing the points above.
