BRAND NEW 20 DAY OLD HAVAL JOLION LOOSES POWER WITH MOM AND CHILDREN IN CAR AND NOW IS BEING THREATENED
On the 11th of August 2021 my husband and I purchased 1 x Haval H6 Luxury model 1 x Haval Jolion Luxury Model vehicles from Haval NMI Durban Umhlanga financed through Standard Bank. The Haval Jolion vehicle broke down 20 days after purchase (31st August). The car is new, so new in fact it did not even have registered plates yet on it. The Jolion had to be towed to the dealership as it did want to start, not only this when it stopped delivering power on a main road the vehicle rolled backwards with myself (Wife), 6-year-old son and 15-year-old son all in the car, by a construction site, whereby contractors came to assist them as the car kept rolling into traffic because the emergency break would not work. The dealership could not trouble shoot what was wrong with the vehicle on the same day. They had to give us a courtesy car as we would not accept anything less. We advised the manager at Haval NMI that we would like to be given the diagnostic report before any repairs are required, this was not done. We were called the next day to be told that they repaired the fault, and we must come and collect the vehicle. To date we still have not received any reports taken from the vehicle, we have not been told in absolute clarity what the fault was just that a fuel pump was repaired. We then contacted AA who towed the vehicle and asked them for the reports and pictures taken of the vehicle. It has now been a week, yesterday (06.09.2021) was the first time the manager contacted us, asking for the courtesy car back. Still not explanation given. Our lawyer sent through a letter stipulating what our rights as consumers are – we have now received today 07.09.2021 a letter contradicting all instructions given and manipulating the Consumer Protection Act and the National Credit Act in their favour. In addition, they have now threatened to charge us storage fees as the vehicle is still at their premises. It is appalling how Haval has treated this situation and has manipulated the situation in their favour. Also ignoring the emotional distress that two children and a woman on her own were put through when the vehicle cut out and lost power, in the middle of a three-lane road in peak traffic. As a South African woman who is so aware of violence against woman and children to be put in that situation, alone, waiting for hours to be towed to a safe place – to be treated in such a demeaning manner because I have questioned the safety and faults of a vehicle I purchased from Haval NMI – that was then repaired with no explanation – and I am now being forced and threatened in to taking the same defective car back – shows that when a woman tries to stand up for her rights as a consumer and fight for what is right – this is how she is treated.
