No refund after paying R1000 with no service

I booked a Chaffauer ride for 2 people in October 2014 as a surprise for my boyfriend. On the morning of the ride I had to cancel so I called and canceled. I was told verbally that I will be refunded the R1000. When I followed up a couple days later then I was told that they can't refund and they can't give me a voucher for the Harley Store . I can only use that as a Chaffauer booking which I will never use . No service was rendered but they will not refund me .
