Harcourts poor service when selling investment properties.

Avoid Harcourts. Avoid Maureen Mathee.

I bought a flat cash from her. In the OTP (signed mid Feb) I stated vacant occupation. The seller ( who was apparently a friend of hers, or maybe not, the stories fluctuated quite significantly ) did not give notice when they should and only did 2 months later. Then they struggled to get rid of the tenants. In all of this Maureen was missing. No feedback. No push to get the clauses of the OTP done. Nothing. To make things worse, she tried to get me to keep these tenants! I told her they are trouble, and she was full of stories. Now she is stuck with them, and I have to make arrangements to get the interim rent. If I do not follow up constantly nothing happens. For example - I told her I'm unhappy and will be complaining, and she is quiet again. Maureen is just there when the money needs to flow.

There are many agents selling investment flats, use anyone except these guys.

3 and a half months after an OTP was signed in a cash deal it is done. If you are looking for speed and service, ignore Harcourts.

Net effect - Harcourts cost me R 7 000 in lost rent. I asked her when she will reimburse me, but no surprise she went quiet again.

Dear Sir, at Harcourts Dunn we pride ourselves in our record of successful sales as well as a great client experience. Although it is never great to hear of a bad experience, we do want to respond to your multiple bad reviews as follows:

  1. The Seller is indeed an acquaintance of Maureen and was declared by her as such.
  2. The tenant was given notice well in advance and proof of this is in our possession. The attorneys also advised of such.
  3. The tenants have been residing in the unit for more than 10 years and Maureen mentioned this. Very little renovations was done hence the lower offer of R595 000 that was accepted by the Sellers from an asking price of R695 000.
  4. The tenants vacated the unit on the 28th May after a process whereby they were vetted to stay on in the unit which was agreed upon. They vacated after it was determined that they will not fulfil the criteria as per your chosen rental agency.
  5. The property lodged in the deed office on the 16thMay and registered on the 28th May. Harcourts as selling agency unfortunately do not have control over items that causes a delay in transfer.

As an Agency who specialises in new development and investment sales with multiple extremely satisfied customers, we are again sorry to hear about your experience and ensure you that we take all relevant feedback serious and will use this to better our client experience.
