Don't Waste Your Time

My experience with Harambee started August 2019. I had been applying for jobs and got an advert on gumtree calling all unemployed youth including graduates to foward their mobile numbers to be contacted by the org. I did so, I then received an SMS immediately with a link to their website where I had to fill in a form with all my personal details and qualifications. The next SMS notification was an invite to come to their CPT center at 8:00.

I was there 7:30am until 4pm and honestly LEARNT NOTHING. Maybe the training would have been helpful for people without computer literacy-but i went thinking i was going for an interview to be matched to graduate oppotunities they had available. I really felt i wasted 9hrs of precious time I could have used on my job search. Perhaps the most disappointing thing for me was also that the people training us kept emphasized how we should continue looking for jobs as HARAMBEE WOULD NOT HELP us and their jobs are ONLY FOR THOSE WITH GRADE 12. We took psychometric tests and they advised that based on the outcome we would them be called for a day 2. There was also a short briefing before we left on an internship oppotunity to do a software developer coding certificate with some institution which will start in 2020 and would pay a stepent of R3000. I registered my details for this oppotunity and went home hoping to hear from them but nothing came from this either.

September came and all i got were "prank calls" from a 087 number. My phone would ring, and 60s into the call the person/operator would hang up. I blocked the number not knowing who this was. Mid month, i received an SMS from Harambee saying my profile was incomplete and they are unable to match me to the right opportunities,I should keep my phone on as I will receive a call from a "087" number. Yes, you guessed it right! The same "087" number I blocked a week back because of the annoying "prank calls" i was receiving. I went onto the website to check for the issues about my profile but everything seemed to be in order and up to date.

I decided to unblock the number hoping the outcome will be different when they decide to call this time but the prank calls continued. At this point i decided to write an email to enquire about this, to which they rep**** I should be patient as they will call again! And yes they did... "prank call" again.

The next step for me was to call their Capetown offices and a lady told me to come to their center to resolve the issue. At this point it had been 3 months already and I was fed up. I decided to just forget about them and continue my job search and this decision was rewarding as I managed to land a good job.

My advise to many looking to get a job via Harambee.

PLEASE DON'T EVEN WASTE YOUR TIME.

Unless ofcourse you take the ******** route and find an inside man within the NGO to assist you with getting opportunities. Otherwise you will just be going in to enjoy a peanut sandwich with a cup of coffee to drown it.

And Harambee please stop harassing us with your prank calls! Your service is just terrible, It seems all you do is to flood your offices with people attending your day trainings just so your sponsors can continue funding the NGO, but you do not really care about finding these people real jobs.
