Unhappy payer

I'm unhappy with happy pay. Last month early October I updated my bank details to a new account and it was confirmed as linked to my happy pay account. I received an sms on the 28th of October reminding me of my payment and ensure that I have enough funds in my account. Fast forward to 1 November no amount was debited from my account only to discover I need to make the payment from the website which I did. A few failed attempts on my account got me concerned as I do haver funds in my account only to discover that Happy pay still has my old account linked and not the new one. Further to this because of 1 day late my available credit has been removed and I had to pay an additional R100 for late payment. This has been nothing but an unhappy experience nothing happy about it. Disappointed in the service.

Good day,

Thank you for sharing your experience, and we sincerely apologise for the frustration you’ve encountered.

We have reviewed your concerns regarding your updated bank details. While the new account was added on your side, it appears that the verification process was not fully completed, which is why the old account remained the active, linked account for debit orders. In such cases, the system cannot process a debit from an unverified account, and the debit will fail automatically.

The SMS you received on 28 October is a standard reminder to ensure sufficient funds are available — it does not confirm which bank account is active, only that a debit is due. Since the new account was not successfully verified, the debit on 1 November could not be processed, resulting in the need to make a manual payment.

We truly regret that this has caused you such an unhappy experience — that is never the service we aim to provide. We were happy to assist you in verifying and updating your correct bank details to prevent this from happening again.

Thank you for reaching out and having us assist you .

Kind regards,
Happy Pay Team
