Wont cancel my membership

The Gym Company is a ****. So we signed up my wife and me and the very next day informed the consultant that we were not going to use the service, a month later I got debited and I called in letting them know that I cancelled which I was then told to come to the gym to sign a cancellation, I did not go as I had to travel for work, got back home and forgot all about the gym company and at the end of the month I was debited again and called again where I was told again to come in and sign cancellation which I did.

The consultant confirmed that we informed him to cancel the membership the next day and that we never received tags or used the gym but I was told that I needed to pay for the 2 months as well as the fee for the tags which are R200 each plus the membership fee of R199 per month per member so the total was R1200 for a service I never used or received

now they keep calling me for payments but I still have not used the gym
