Whatever You Do, DO NOT SIGN UP For Gym Company Membership/Subscription

Anyone reading this, trust me you don't want to sign up with Gym Company. They let you believe your contract is month to month and that to cancel, you just need to submit the cancellation form and wait 3 months for it to be canceled. That is so not true. I have been trying to cancel my membership with them since late 2024.

Everything was fine until I started travelling a lot for work. So the second time I travelled, I was gone for over 6 months and back in SA for 2 months before leaving again. That's when I decided there is no point in keeping the membership if I am spending on it and hardly there to use it. First, they ignored my cancellation emails no matter how many I sent. Then when I was in the country, I went there (Boskruin) to do the cancellation, but the people at the reception were useless and asked me to talk to the manager, who never seems to be there. Then I used their app to submit a ticket. It took almost 2 weeks just for them to pick up the ticket and escalate it, then a week later, they simply just deleted it without a single word. When I call in to follow up, no one seems to give me a straight answer. In December 2025, I decided I had had enough and canceled their debit order on my account. So they changed strategy and instead of running the debt order on the 27th of each month, they started running random minor (as in, instead of the monthly fee of R199, they ran R50 here, R80 there, R140 etc) amounts. They ended up deducting way more than I owed. I've been following up since then, but there's been no explanation or response to my cancellation. Now I am out of the country again and have been forced to stop using my Capitec bank account altogether so they don't keep deducting money from my account.

I really wish some authority could investigate them because from every complaint I have seen here, this seems to be something they do very regularly. They sign you up and pretend getting out is straightforward, only to find out they have no intention to honor their own words. For now, I am sending my cousin with power of attorney to go to the bank and have them completely removed from debiting my account. I'll figure out how to report them for ***** later on so they can't blacklist me.
