No consideration for unemployment

I was on a month to month contract and was eligible for cancelation after being with them for ovee 6 months. Contract stipulates that after a month you can serve notice to terminate services. Sent an email that was not responded to, went to the gym only to be told cancelation period is 3 month and not one month and this clause is in the termination of services contract. I needed cancelation and agreed because what else can I do only to loose my job. Upon informing the gym and submitting official documents pertaining to my unemployment, I was told that I still have to pay the remaining 2 installments for successful termination. My question is from which income am I paying? Did I choose to not have a job?
