cancellation of a gym contract

I joined gym company in 2014 in January and I was told I was told I was gonna pay the gym R100 each and every month they will deduct from my account. For the first two months I was unable to go to the gym plus I lost my job around February then I reported it to them about my job loss and that I wasn't gonna be able to pay the amount and that they should cancel my gym membership. But they did not now I'm black listed I cannot even find a job.
