Cancelation fee

In January 2017 I signed a one year contract with the Gym company bar baraganeth on the 18 of December went in to cancel my contract and was told I had to pay a cancellation fee of about R1500 reason being the consultant that signed me up put me on a 3 year contract without my knowledge and was told I could not cancel. I don't want to pay the fee anymore and think it's unfair for me as a customer to be held reliable for such behaviour and I was giving no choice apart from paying the cancellation fee or do a change of ownership to someone else when in the 1st place I never requested for a 3 year contract
