Failure to honour my valid claim

On 24 February 2017 I suffered a devastating loss, due to fire, at my business premises in Tom Jones street, Benoni. They are relying on a total misinterpretation of the facts to try and uphold a policy avoidance, stating that I did not disclose facts to them. They are trying to claim that I was a manufacturer, because I had a repair area, in a small section upstairs, in my second hands goods store. At the policy inception they were informed that I was a second hand goods dealer, I was never asked any questions regarding the business, in fact I was never even asked to complete a questioner prior to the policy inception. The insurer was also asked, by the broker, to conduct a site survey which they declined to do. Since the fire the insurer appears to have done everything possible to delay the process of the claim and to draw out the complaints resolution process, in fact they appear to be totally disregarding their own policies and the laws governing insurers. I have placed the full timeline of events together which pictures and addendum's regarding the claim on my website www.dealerscove.co.za please visit this should you want to see how I have been dealt with by Guard Risk insurance and their underwriters IUM (Insurance Underwriting Managers). My opinion, through this ongoing experience, is that we need to be very careful with who we insure ourselves as some appear to have no honor or respect for the people they insure and are simply there to take your money and then look for any excuse to not assist when they are required.
