Dishonest and greedy

I bought a teeth whitening voucher for 2 on 14 February 2016, which cost me R 1 980. It is expiring on 11 August 2016.

The year was busy and we wanted to see a dentist before we claim the voucher. With the voucher's expiry date approaching, we went to the dentist for a checkup and to get ready to whiten our teeth. The dentist checkup's total cost was R 2 640, which we had to pay ourselves.

Excited to claim the voucher and whiten our teeth, we attempted to claim the voucher. I emailed the respective party, who rep**** and said they moved to London and I can get a refund. This is 4 weeks before the expiry of the voucher.

If we didn't attempt to claim the voucher, we would've lost R 1980 which would've landed straight into Groupon's pockets.

I see it as theft that they didn't even notify me of the unclaimable voucher, which they already knew about. When applying for my refund, they mentioned the voucher isn't valid anymore and can be refunded, proving my claim that they were indeed aware of the voucher's status.

We won't get another deal as cheap as R 1 980 to whiten our teeth, and we wasted R2 640 for our early dentist appointments (keep in mind that we were planning on changing our medical aid soon, which would've covered all of our dentist costs, but we were waiting for our medical aid contract to expire. We went early and spent the money to claim our teeth whitening voucher).

So now, after Groupon accumulated rent on my R 1980 for 6 months, and we had to spend an unnecessary R 2 640 on our early dentist appointments, I am getting a refund (hopefully, still waiting).

This is, in my opinion, casting a very dark light on Groupon and their services. I won't be making use of them in the future, since this is definitely not a company I would want to do business with again.
