Cancellation of the voicher

I purchased a voucher for a Hulala Lakeside lodge get away to Mpumalanga in June 2015. I made a booking for beginning of september. But due to unforeseen circumstances me and my boyfriend are only able to get leave during the long weekend. I asked for cancellation. Today when I called I was told it was credited into my groupon account. This is the money I still need to secure a booking for that weekend. Is this how groupon work with regard to refund???? I am not planning to use their services anytime soon. Why I was not given optios??? I am frustrated
