Handing over without discussion

I am deeply disgusted in this hospital.

No pride at all.

Admin is so poorly handled and process is never followed through correctly. Clearly staff who handle personal information don't have a clue to as what they are doing.

I was booked into Groote Schuur in August 2016. They had over booked beds (I was on medical aid, chargers are still the same as per normal elsewhere) i was told to go home and continue phoning in to find out when beds would be available.

7 months later and I am 27 weeks pregnant. My pregnancy is considered high risk as to my medical history. I am 25 years old and did this cancer thing completely on my own. Paying bills on my own. But guess what i did it!

Groote Schuur took blood tests from me before I went into chemo, I am registered onto the oncology benefits program which my bloods go through and it saves me an arm and leg from having to stop eating to pay all bits and pieces.

Groote Schuur handed me over for one of my blood tests. R300 yes and they handed me over.

No phone call to state that I am in need of paying this (Even though it was not me who was responsible) they did not put it through Discovery as it would have showed up on my side if by any chance it wouldn't be covered.

I find it highly stressful and frustrating to be harassed at work, called at work on the work phone, on my personal phone, smsed and emailed by MBD collections to pay this R300 which I did as It was not put through my medical aid on time (Which I paid 4 days later after being told i had 7 days to pay an account I knew nothing about nor knew there was a problem) I find it highly stressful as I was a patient at this hospital to not have been phoned or contacted or addressed about this matter before being handed over.

If the process was done correctly this would have gone through my oncology program and have been paid. If not then it would have been paid as quick as possible as this was only R109 then.

I would advise anyone not to go through Groote Schuur hospital.

I have had constant issues with them and this is one I have spoken about. Let's not mention when I had cancer and I waited an entire day to get an x-ray and they didn't even contact me with a follow up date. For 2 months I couldn't walk as this cancer took over my leg and moved to my lymphatic system. Completely calcified and showed up on a previous x-ray a couple months earlier but then my medical aid shut me off for a brief time. I continuously phoned for help and asking for when someone could contact me and with what was going on. I couldn't walk and my leg was oozing. This cancer stated eating away at my leg and I could fit 3 fingers in about 3 cm deep. No response no help. No feed back from Groote Schuur. Nothing.

My work took me to Millerton Mediclinic who did help me and thank god for them! They helped direct me to Doctors.

6 months later I get contacted for outstanding payment for the x ray that was taken at Groote Schuur. Truth is, I had no response nor did I know if they had even had the x rays as paper trails always get lost there. I'm surprised they even had the Audacity to phone me. Their first question should have been are you still alive? After my op and radiation and talk of chemo (After I picked up weight as my cancer was an aggressive form of cancer and I was falling through my own bum with looking like a twig) They actually hounded me for payment. I fought that case and they took responsibility for being so poor with their work ethic allowing me not to pay for my x-rays.

Doesn't change the fact that people are losing their lives and not being contacted back. Its sick.

Rather go to another hospital where you can be helped and taken seriously our lives are important.
