Discriminatory and horrible service

I will NEVER go back! Rude, and horrible service!

Our first visit actually went ok, we knew more or less what we wanted but I was so excited for my first pair of vellies I took the first ones that fit! Extremely happy with our purchase and even the customer service, we returned to buy my boyfriend a pair a few days later.

A few things to consider: 1. The vellies we were looking at for him were R750, it is not a cheap investment. 2. The vellies get burned with your initials so it is safe to assume that a refund will not be easy. 3. My boyfriend has a disability, causing little to no movement in his left arm and hand. (This was also a topic of conversation during our first visit, so no excuse of them not being aware)

He really had his heart set on the ones with the tyre soles, but obviously needed ones with the little tab at the back to assist him with putting them on (refer to point 3 above).

We were told this preference was part of the selection, and in an attempt to figure out his size, many different shoes were brought but not the ones we were looking for. He fit a random shoe in a size 7 and a random shoe in a size 8, which was brought to us by the assistant even though we would have been completely content in looking for our own selection considering we have a few preferences. After a few shoes being brought to us that were not what we wanted- we started asking for the ones we initially came for and were just constantly given other suggestions.

Another lady came in the room and asked what the size was that we were looking for. we explained the situation again, and a pair (still not what we were looking for) was thrown in front of us and this lady walked to our initial assistant saying something in the line of “sien, dit is hoe jy met customers soos dit werk” (translating to: “see that is how you deal with customers like that) followed by a few other whispered remarks and giggles.

I was extremely upset by this considering its not just something you grab off the shelf and walk out, for the first two reasons above- some consideration and fitting is needed. Secondly- there was absolutely no regard for the fact that they had not given us ones with a tab on the back as we had asked for, which slowed down the process further as he physically cannot use his left hand! When I tried to assist him we were told “Ek weet regtig nie waarmee julle so besig is en wat so lank kan vat nie” ( translating to: “I really dont know what you guys are so busy with and what can be taking so long)

So if you are considering buying vellies from a place that so clearly discriminates against people that really wanted to support them (Even already had a few other pairs in mind we wanted to have custom made after our initial pairs) this is the place for you!

Assisting with snotty remarks and no regard for your preferences- grondpad vellies is the place to go!
