Getting ones hope up

My wife received a call from Ashley on Friday advising that she got the job at YNF Engineering and that she should come in on Monday with her talkies, she was then advised that she should hold off until all documents were signed off, she was then called again on Wednesday to say that she no longer has the job as it has become redundant. Now I feel this to be very unprofessional. One should only confirm employment once all documents are in place and have been signed.
