Review of Greyhound Service at Park Station. Never again.
Yesterday, my sister and I were scheduled to take a trip from Park to Durban on a Greyhound bus. The departure time was 10:15 AM, and we joined the line at the station at 10:12 AM. Almost immediately, a lady began to take attendance and informed us that our names were not on the list. She explained that she needed to assist those on her register first, but she sent another gentleman to help us.
The gentleman arrived and immediately accused us of lying about having been in line on time. He barely let us speak and claimed that he had been calling for us for over 30 minutes. However, when he turned to other passengers to verify his claim, they disagreed, stating he had only been calling for about 10 minutes.
We asked him if the bus outside was our bus, but he repeatedly told us that we had missed it and labeled us as dishonest. This all occurred between 10:12 AM and 10:33 AM. Confused, I asked to speak to the supervisor of the day. She couldn't confirm what the gentleman had said because she was behind her booth. She called her supervisor to find out the departure time of the bus, and we discovered that the bus had only left around 10:25 AM. The bus that the previous gentleman had denied was ours was, in fact, our bus, and it had left us behind because he was busy berating us.
The lady who initially took attendance returned to follow up and, despite her initial confusion, sided with her male colleague, claiming we were lying. She said we should have been listening to her conversation with another passenger who was on our bus. When we tried to reason with her about the feasibility of overhearing the conversation, knowing that the other passenger was on our bus, and overriding basic manners to butt into their conversation, she grunted and walked away.
Our ordeal didn't end there. Upon calling the call center, we were advised to go to the Greyhound offices in Park. There, we were greeted by the same lady who had taken attendance and stormed away from us earlier. We again tried to explain the situation, but she deflected by talking about how other passengers had been complaining about late buses all day. When we explained that we missed our bus due to a lack of competence and professionalism from her and her colleague, she berated us again.
Fed up, we asked for her name to report the incident, but she ****, claiming she did not work there. Her colleague behind the desk also refused to give her name. As we were leaving, I held the door open for the lady, only for her to push it into my face. When I told her she had hurt me, she continued shouting at us instead of simply apologizing.
Greyhound used to be the cream of the crop. What happened? How is it possible that the staff are now doing the bare minimum, going so far as to call customers ****s and dishonest rather than double-checking if our bus had truly departed? This experience was quite sad and disappointing.
