Mthatha Travellers Matter

I booked bus tickets to Mthatha with the promise of the bus adhering to the COVID-19 regulations, I.e. wearing masks and social distancing. There was no social distancing because all sites were occupied. The people on the bus were not encouraged to put on their masks during the journey. This is one aspect that was of utmost importance to this particular trip because I trusted the bus line to keep to these regulations. Furthermore, there is an understanding that it's only old busses that go to Umtata. This was the case for this trip, the engine was burning up the back of the bus to a point that the heat was unbearable. The seat covers are worn out and torn. The seat belts do not work. The toilet gave out a horrible stench. It is even more sad to report that the speed at which the bus was going was alarming but one of the drivers did not seem to be bothered by it. The majority of South Africans use public transportation, be it taxis, flights, buses, or trains. Now, when they choose a particular mode of transport, they put pay for a service and expect it to deliver. Busses are not doing travelers a favor by their availability. Greyhound needs to put that into perspective. Especially with Mthatha travelers, we matter.
