Greyhound bus number 2808
Greyhound charges a lot of money for premium services but deliver the worst experience you can get. Our bus left Johannesburg for Cape Town 30min late, and it seemed like the staff was allowing people who do not have tickets into the busses. We do not know why these people do know have tickets, but we heard some of them pay bribes to some of the staff to let them in once everyone else is loaded. We witnessed this while they were loading the Eastern Cape passengers when we were waiting for our bus to arrive.
Our bus took time to leave the station because it obviously had to load it's fair share of passengers without tickets, and then what came after was worse.
The bus drivers did not know the route on some parts and we would often get lost. When it rained, water poured onto our seats and got us wet. By the time we got to Beufort West, we were about 2 hours behind schedule. This is crazy when you take into account that our 30min stops were being reduced to 15min to make up for lost time, but instead we kept on falling behind schedule. Once we were about 45km away from Worcester, the bus started smoke and we had to evacuate it. This was in some way expected considering how slow we were moving for about an hour prior to that.
The bus was experiencing a mechanical issue, and we had to wait for hours in the middle of nowhere for a replacement to come. This bus broke down at 2pm, and we were supposed to arrive in Cape Town at 1pm. As I am typing this review it is 3pm and we are still stuck somewhere in the Western Cape along the N1 waiting for a replacement to arrive. Thank you Greyhound for such an awful experience.
