Hidden Charges for X-Ray Referral – Patients Not Informed Upfront
I consulted Dr. Mabila and paid R550 for my son's consultation. After the consultation, I was informed that I had to pay an additional fee simply to obtain a referral letter for an X-ray. At no point before the consultation was I informed that there would be this extra charge. When I questioned it, Dr. Mabila himself acknowledged that patients should be informed beforehand and even said that I was not the first person to complain. He also said the practice should have a notice at reception informing patients of this charge. Despite being aware of previous complaints, the practice still fails to disclose this cost upfront. My concern is not only the fee itself but the lack of transparency. Patients have the right to know all costs before receiving treatment so they can make an informed decision. I hope the practice reviews its billing practices and ensures that all additional charges are clearly communicated in advance.
