Here are the facts.
This is our experience with Gorilla Pit. On Nov 17, our 2018 Peugeot 2008 stopped running as a result of overheating so we brought it in. On the 22nd they give us an update and say it will take 2 days to get a part in to repair the gearbox oil cooler, and it will cost 8000r. Fine. They say if all goes well, the car will be ready on Nov. 25. On the 28th, we haven’t heard anything so we ask for an update and they say the part came in on the 25th but it was the wrong part. Instead of gearbox oil cooler they were sent an engine cooler. They need to find another source for the gearbox oil cooler. On Dec. 2 they update us that they have exhausted all other options and must order from the dealer where it is on back order for 3 weeks. So we are assuming they get the part around Dec 23 and will then be closed for the holidays. The cost is now 18000r. We are disappointed but again fine. We are not even hoping to get the car back until after New Year’s. We wait to ask for an update until Jan. 2. They are closed until Jan. 9. We then hear from them that they installed the new part but the car is still over heating so it is actually a different issue that probably caused the first, and the head gasket needs to be replaced so another 2 weeks and 20-23000r they estimate. Again we are frustrated but okay fine. So now it is Jan 25. They tell us the engineers should be done by Friday the 28th, but they need a 50% deposit to get it released and the final amount is 46000r (3000r more than we previously expected and this is already so much higher than the initial estimate). We do not have that kind of money so we have to put the charge on our credit card, and the owner tell us he’ll have to charge an extra 5% if we do that. Nowhere at the business does it state that this is their policy and I refused to accept the additional fees and they finally let us put the charge on our credit card. We get to Friday and have heard nothing so we reach out and the message back is that the cylinder head won’t be in until Tuesday/Wednesday (Jan 31/Feb 1). So not even sure what they claimed to be working on last week. Feels like they were just trying to get money out of us to pay their employees on the 25th with no actual hopes of returning our car. So now earliest we could pick even hope for (we aren’t) is Friday Feb. 3. This will be over 11 weeks at that point and again we still do not have our car back so there could be much more to this saga.
