Don't Join Go Health Club

So I joined Go Health Club in Fairlands Johannesburg on November 25th 2018. I am a student with certain financial constraints. As such, I spoke extensively with the salesperson on board about what exactly I was looking for and I asked her various questions to determine whether the package she was selling was the right one for me. I even asked her directly about certain aspects of the pricing she was referring to that seemed too good to be true. She was vague and evasive, and where she couldn't evade she outright ****. I found out a few days later, when one of the people behind the counter was compassionate to explain to me the fact that she had mislead me and that there were packages suited to my financial situation but that that was not what she had sold. the excuse at the time was that she was new (later they would say that she had disappeared from work implying that she was unreliable to begin with). After I decided that it was better just to cancel, he took me through the terms and conditions that I would need to fulfill on my side to ensure that the cancellation would go through.

I returned the complementary merchandise that I was given when I signed up. I sent a cancellation email immediately, during what was then their cool off period of 7 days. I also cancelled via their website. Four days later when they still hadn't rep****, I went to the gym and got the email address for someone whom the person behind the counter called on my behalf. Apparently he promised to sort it out. He did not. Some time after that I went again and was assured by the manager that if I came back the next day he would absolutely sort it out. I did so to no avail. I have called, emailed, reversed transactions and called again for months now, yet I am still being charged. Their part of the agreement, which at the time, was to return the deposit if one were to pull out during the cooling-off period has still not been honored.

And at the bank, when you go to reverse a transaction with Go, their first reaction is to tell you that you are one of several people who've been treated in this way. They literally nod to each other knowingly and state 'It's another issue with Go Health Club'. I am, quite frankly appalled at the boldness with which these people operate in their deceit. As such, I am writing this review purely as a warning to anyone who might have considered membership with Go Health Club: don't do it. If you live in Fairlands, do yourself a favour and drive to the Viva in Hillfox instead.
