We contracted South African Flooring Board (Vaughn & Wendy) for flooring installation at our home in Monte Vista, Cape Town, and the experience became one of the most stressful contractor situations we have dealt with. After payment was made for both labour and flooring materials, we experienced: • repeated missed deadlines; • constant broken promises regarding attendance and completion dates; • inconsistent and ignored communication; • undertakings that stock would be delivered “same day” which were not honoured; • only partial delivery of flooring stock despite full payment having already been made; and • ongoing excuses and shifting explanations throughout the process (Over the span of 2 months - whilst my wife and i experienced a personal loss, simultaneously our house was in shambles and was met with utter ignorance & disrespect). Matters escalated further when we later discovered through direct engagement with the supplier that stock relating to our project allegedly had not been settled with the supplier, despite us already having paid SA Flooring for those materials (IN FULL). Particularly concerning was the attempt to retrieve previously delivered flooring stock from our property under explanations that conflicted with earlier communications. We ultimately had no option but to cancel the agreement due to repeated material breaches, loss of trust and complete breakdown in communication. What is additionally disappointing is that the supplier (Global Stream Import & Export (Pty) Ltd), whose products and distributor relationship were central to this transaction, has remained entirely silent despite being made aware of the situation and the prejudice suffered by us as consumers. A request for a reconciliation of the purchases made by SA Flooring board marked for us was also completely ignored. Consumers should be extremely cautious before paying significant deposits or upfront material costs to this contractor. Fortunately, we have maintained detailed written records, invoices, proof of payment and correspondence throughout.
