Rude and aggressive management at photo shop in Rivonia
This afternoon I requested a digital photograph with a standard blue background as per my institution's requirements. After telling him twice it was for China, the gentleman who offered to help me advised on the dimensions for a standard photograph for China which he said was 48mm x 33mm; to which I said he may proceed.
I had in my possession a document with the requirements stipulated as to how the photograph needed to be done (dimensions, JPEG etc.) - which I went through step by step with the gentleman helping me, so as to stay on the same page with one another. While reading the bilingual document together (in English), the gentleman asked me, "is this French?" I said its not French its Chinese and English (pointing the sentences as laid out in bullet form together while reading so he was aware of the specific requirements for the photograph). There was also a dummy example on the said document with a photograph showing the standard blue background clearly visible, which he acknowledged.
A few issues and concerns arose out of this process which is why this complaint is being made.
Firstly, I approached his screen several minutes after he started working on the digital photograph - and he had made the background Indigo [HTML #4****2 rgb(75,0,130)] - and not standard blue.
To which I said calmly, "that's purple, not blue". He then proceeded to call one of his colleagues to assist him, which he did, and they both worked together to attain a standard blue as shown to them from the colour wheel, however their attempts then created the background in teal [HTML #20b2aa rgb(32,178,170) Light Sea Green]. I exclaimed that that is green and not blue!
The gentleman rep****, "Sir we are trying to find the colour and we're working on it". I stated that the standard blue as required which you can clearly see, is not purple nor is it green...
The gentleman then got up and walked over to his boss and partner near the entrance of the shop, and as he walked passed me in vernac he said, "Let's ask the boss this guy is angry". I immediately in English rep****, "You can tell me I am angry but say that in English".
The manager/ owner came over and began attending to me. Clearly he did not receive a concise handover from his colleague because I was asked if the photograph is for the French - again I had to reiterate as I did initially to his colleague twice, that it is Chinese (a third time). I was asked if it is for a passport - to which I again reiterated it is for my institution's specific requirements (to which gave my phone to him explaining and showing the document as stated with the blue background as a proxy as well). He then proceeded to ask me what exactly for your institution do you need it? I was shocked and dismayed because regardless of whatever I needed the photograph for; the document stipulating what I required for the photograph and where; and the colour specifically required, was revealed to them - that's all. He immediately began shouting and raising his voice aggressively asking what my problem and attitude is, and brazenly asked, "Are you getting annoyed!", he shouted loudly... and aggressively saying that he's trying to help me. I said he mustn't get snotty with me, (he transferred the same line back to me) - and I exclaimed that I cannot come here and ask for a standard hue that you can clearly see and which I am showing as you as a requirement, and from the colour wheel I get indigo and then green instead of blue!
He then began surfing the net and first wrote down the code for the standard blue he found online, and thereafter typed it into the frame from the colour wheel and presto, the correct hue appeared as part of the background.
- Passive-aggressive and extremely rude attitude of the manager/ owner to shout at a customer when clearly his staff lacked the knowledge and/or know how so as to attain the sample colour for the background required - Why would he need to be summoned in the first place if the correct colour was app****? (It wasn't, and twice to boot).
- To assist and empower his colleague/s who had initially failed to help with what was needed by explaining where he was navigating to search for the correct colour online, and how, while doing so, could potentially allow for future occurrences of a similar sort to be mitigated and dealt with with more confidence, pertaining to that specific product knowledge or skill set. Rather, he did what he did and left without saying a word, returning back to the front of the shop at his desk.
His behaviour was deplorable and obnoxious, an extremely arrogant and verbally aggressive individual in a customer service orientated role, is just shocking to say the least.
