GEM gives false time and price promises

Was approached by them promising pre-paid electrical savings and quick installation (within a month or two). I would need to paid their administrative fee and a fee to the installer. Was told the installer would charge around R800. Four months passed before an electrician finally arrived. He quoted R2200. I queried the R800. He said it was incorrect. I queried GEM - was I being **********? They said I must just pay the electrician. But you quoted R800? They said nothing was in writing. Now 8 months later, council has charged my account R2550 ex VAT for the meter and installation. Get GEM to disclose the proper time your meter would take to be installed. Get in writing any pricing they give you.
