Great location, Poor accommodation

We booked a 3 bed apartment at Glitter Bay in August 2016. The photos online looked very appealing and it was described as a contemporary apartment. The salesperson I spoke to on the phone referred to it as modern. What it was in reality, was far from it.

The apartment is a lovely space but sadly very dated and sp****. Plastic chairs in the dining room. Bathrooms were very basic with cracked toilet seats. Mould on wall and ceiling.

Sofa in lounge was in a terrible state, obviously very old and tatty. No cushions.

Main bedroom had no mirror so couldn't use a hairdryer. Beds had cheap pillows and lumpy duvets. Very poor quality bed linen as well.

The entire apartment was in a state of disrepair. Very clinical and uninviting, not homely at all. No rugs at all so the floor gets dusty very quickly with black bits all over.

Filthy mouldy curtains and blinds.

Cracked tiles on walls and floors throughout the apartment.

Blinds in the living area in a poor state and dirty.

The intercom did not work.

The quality of the cleaning reflected the state of the apartment. Cleaning was shoddy and very haphazard. We watched the cleaner whilst she was doing the bathroom. She sprayed the a few surfaces including the toilet with one solution, then proceeded to use a dirty rag which she dipped into the bucket she'd been mopping the floor with, and slopped it round the sink, then flushed the loo without cleaning it. Bathrooms not cleaned on a daily basis during the week as advertised. Dishes not washed properly.

Entrance to apartment unswept and dusty and no doormat.

Office staff were patronising and unhelpful when we raised concerns and expressed our disappointment at the state of the apartment, especially as we had paid R25,880 upfront for 13 nights.

I messaged the letting agent on our return to the UK expressing our disappointment with the cost of the apartment and the state it was in. She was extremely hostile and unprofessional, ranting on about why we had stayed for 13 nights when we did not like the apartment. We did ask if we could be moved but they said it was not possible. We also asked if we could get a refund if we left early and they said no. So we were stuck as we could not afford to pay out again for new accommodation.

The whole experience was so upsetting. The photos of the apartment online were very deceptive and we felt cheated for the the amount we paid for such appalling conditions in the apartment. Even worse was the attitude of the letting agent. She was so unprofessional and defensive in her response to our complaint. I would not recommend 16 Glitter Bay in Umhlanga.
