Worst Medical Aid and staff members
I joined Genesis Medical Scheme in July from August 2018, Esmay Grove was the lady that helped me and called me a few times thereafter, so automatically I assumed that she was the lady I dealt with. 22 August I emailed Esmay Grove informing her of my pregnancy, from there several emails went out till today when I eventually got a response from Genesis Medical Scheme telling me that my membership has been terminated in September therefore my pregnancy will not be covered with them also why Esmay has not been responding because she is not the lady I was supposed to be dealing with. My question is how the hell is this my fault and now my pregnancy is not covered because of this. If she is not the person I should have been dealing with then surely she should have emailed me back saying that and secondly, they terminated my medical aid and refunded me when all communication was on mail with Esmay. I will recommend this medical aid to anyone as they let you down in your most vulnerable stage because they have *********** staff.

According to our records, you were informed of your membership termination on the 28th September 2018 already. You were not informed about this today.
Your membership was not terminated at the end of August 2018 because of your correspondence with our Esmay, or whatever information was shared between you, but because of a breach of contract when your monthly membership contribution was not paid.
Every person that joins a medical scheme enters into a legally binding contract. Members of Genesis must pay contributions at the beginning of each month. Any member that fails to pay contributions on time will be in breach of the contract and will have their membership suspended.
In cases where contributions remain unpaid by the fourth day of the month, the Scheme will send such defaulting members an email reminding them to pay contributions and warning them of the consequences of failing to pay what is due within another fourteen days.
Any member that has not paid all outstanding amounts due to the Scheme by the date specified in the notice, will have their membership terminated due to a material breach of the contract.
Our records reflect that we have informed you of the above on the 4th and again on the 10th of September 2018, when your September contribution was not received. You contacted us on the 13th of September to make an arrangement to settle the outstanding contributions by the 21st of September, but then did not honour this arrangement. Your membership was subsequently terminated on the 28th of September 2018 due to a breach of contract and you were informed accordingly on that day. We received your September contribution at the beginning of October, which was subsequently refunded to you.
The reason why your pregnancy would not be covered now, is because a new membership application will have to be submitted, where the pregnancy will be treated as an existing condition and the application will be underwritten accordingly.
You may find the below article of relevance, especially if you join a medical scheme again in future. It explains the importance of paying monthly contributions on time and as per your contractual obligations to a medical scheme.

Yes, that is correct. As your previous membership was terminated, a new membership application will have to be made to the Scheme. Your previous membership can unfortunately not be reinstated.
