Refusing to pay 1/2 a day hospitilisation
<p>i recently gave birth, and was hospitilised for 2 and a 1/2 days while my baby was in icu due to a number of concerns.. I have a private comprehensive cover and pay alot for the entire family. Genesis is refusing to pay for the 1/2 a day stating that i had a nvd and didnt need to stay that long...</p>

Generally speaking, the Scheme approves 2 days for a NVD and 3 days for a C-Section, unless an extended hospital stay for the patient (mother) is clinically indicated, e.g. where the patient requires specific treatment that can only be administered in a hospital setting. This information was communicated, in writing, to the hospital when they initially contacted the Scheme for a hospital admission reference number for your NVD.
In your instance, the Scheme did not receive any motivation from neither the hospital, nor your doctor, to extend your hospital stay. Due to the time in the day of your delivery, the Scheme has extended the normal 2 days for your NDV, to 3 days.
