Genesis, a BIG let down! Don't join!

Dear Joelle  It is truly disheartening to learn that you, despite all our telephone calls, letters and emails, still do not understand your cancer benefits and then revert to online platforms.  The information regarding your benefits, as shared by you on this platform, clearly reflects that you unfortunately do not understand your benefits.  Your cancer benefits were listed and detailed from the onset of your treatment.  For example, in August 2021, our correspondence specifically stated the benefit as…  “MMIB is limited to R550 000 per beneficiary per annum, with a further sub-limit of R250 000 per beneficiary per annum for out-of-hospital oncologist consultations, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, scans, pathology and materials used in treatment”.  This was also explained, verbally and in writing, to your husband (the main member) earlier in 2022 when we realised his / your limited understanding of how the funding benefit works.  None of our cancer benefits have been deleted (as you assert).  Furthermore, the R225 000 that you refer to, was the annual benefit for out-of-hospital oncologist consultations, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, scans, pathology and materials used in treatment way back in 2019 (two years prior to you joining the Scheme).  This benefit was increased to R250 000 in 2020 already.  On a further point of correction  -  your membership was never suspended.  At the time, the Scheme did a medical history review (MHR), but your membership per se was not suspended.  Normally, if a new member applies for risk benefits shortly after joining a scheme and the reason for the proposed treatment relates to a condition that was not disclosed on their application form, a medical scheme are within their rights to do a MHR and make enquiries into their medical history.  Yours sincerely  GENESIS MEDICAL SCHEME
