Exploiting clients & lack of service seems to be their game

At my first call to Genesis I confirmed several times with the consultant that we would have immediate cover as I have just returned from overseas and my children had no medical cover - She ASSURED me this will not be a problem. After retruning forms then only did she say now we will need to be assessed and then they will let us know - this will take a couple of days. Hence no immediate cover. After assesment was done they came back with a ridiculous exclusion for myself but I accepted it as my boys needed immediate cover. Which she then started to hestitate on and say she is not sure if it is possible and she had to speak to underwriters first which would take antoher couple of days. When she finally came back I was told they would cover me for the last week and a half of the month but I would need to pay for the full month. Clearly this scheme is all about money making and taking advantage of clients and noting about delivering client service. If I am already having to fight like this to try join the scheme - how am I going to fight when I try get them to cover an important claim. Very dissapointing and probably why when I phoned a few doctors offices for referrals of good medical aids - Genesis Medical;s name never came up...

Good morning Chantel

We are so sorry to hear that your perception of the Scheme is that of money making and taking advantage of clients.  These assumptions are (fortunately) unfounded.

All medical schemes in South Africa are subject to the provisions of the Medical Schemes Act and the registered rules of each scheme.  To this end, waiting periods and the part-payment of monthly contributions are unfortunately not something that a scheme can customise.  Irrespective what time of the month a new member joins a medical scheme, a full monthly contribution would always be payable.  Schemes take on 100% risk;  therefore monthly contributions cannot be pro-rated.

Yours sincerely

Please read review again. It is about ill-trained staff that make promises to clients that the business can't deliver on and then their arrogant attitude when their mistakes are addressed. You also cancelled my cover without my request or any communication. I prefer no reply to a weak, disinterested reply such as above...

 Dear Chantel

Kindly note that the Scheme never cancelled your cover without your request.  The Scheme sent you a  counter-offer letter, which allows for a period of time for a response,  failing which the offer for membership lapses. This would be the same scenario for anyone who applies.

Your counter-offer letter lapsed unfortunately as we did not receive the signed letter.

Further to this, one of our senior administrators also followed up with you immediately when  we became aware of your unhappiness.  She offered to work with you directly to get your membership started.  There was no response to this email either.

The Scheme is most willing to help you join, but we do kindly require your co-operation.

Yours sincerely
