AVOID Genesis Medical Scheme!!!
PLEASE AVOID joining this scheme. They are very happy to receive your monthly contributions, however, when you need to be admitted, even in an emergency, there are millions of questions, always requesting additional clinical reports, which conveniently delays for them to authorise an admission, and trying to make it as difficult as possible for their patients. We had to wait 6 HOURS for a commitment from Genesis to cover an urgent admission, and we STILL do not have a definite answer. We eventually paid CASH just to be able to be admitted and for treatment to commence. Be very careful of all their fine print and terminology used.

21 Feb 2025, 07:57 Good morning Chirené First and foremost, we trust that your daughter is doing much better than yesterday and that she may be discharged today. We wish her a speedy recovery. From the Scheme’s perspective we would like to take this opportunity to state that there never was, or is, any intension to delay an admission, or to make it “as difficult as possible”. Your membership with the Scheme has only been for a few weeks. Furthermore the request was received yesterday from the hospital for the same day admission. Understandably, when an admission request is received so soon after joining the Scheme, there are processes in place to manage potential irregularities. No medical scheme in South Africa will automatically approve a hospital admission request so soon after joining that scheme, if the reason for the admission was not related to a full disclosure of the medical conditions on their application form. In your situation, however, the Scheme was fully aware of the diagnosis at the time, but required additional clinical input in terms of a treatment plan. As soon as this information was received, your hospital admission reference number was released. Yours sincerely GENESIS MEDICAL SCHEME

21 Feb 2025, 11:38Dear Genesis
Your response means nothing, false promises.
We have been members for 3 months, not “a few weeks” and this was our first claim. Your investigations on the entire family should have been done before the application to join the scheme were approved. I have lost all faith in this scheme and your excuses and explanations still does not come to par why we had to wait SIX HOURS to be admitted, when my daughter was in severe pain, ran a high temperature and was fainting in the waiting room.
I repeat PLEASE AVOID JOINING THIS SCHEME!!!
