User Beware: Generators SA

I had an experience similar to a recent review. I ordered and paid for a generator on 19 March, and received it around 10 days later. It had been previously run (had oil and a little bit of diesel) and I filled the tank with diesel and it started fine. Noisy for a silent generator....but anyway.. My electrician made the connection from my old generator, and it then would not start while cranking. On the 2nd April, it was collected by the same gent who delivered it and we discussed that all loose items were present, and that it had a full tank of diesel. No mention of physical damage was made, as there wasn't any.

Two weeks went by with no word. I asked for a refund and was told that it would incur a 15% penalty for handling - which is contrary to the consumer protection act. I was then told it had been run without fuel, which certainly did not happen. Then I was told it had an airlock.

5 days later I enquired again if I would ever see the generator again, and was told to deal with Turner Morris as it was not Generator SA's problem. I was even sent a dispatch note from Turner Morris that the unit had been repaired and sent back to me, which it hadn't been. Again, I demanded a refund, but this time I was told I could not have one as the unit was now damaged and I had obviously damaged it.

So we go from airlock to now physical damage.

Dealing with several (very helpful) people at Turner Morris, we tracked the unit down as they still had it in the workshop.

They completed the warranty repair, and delivered it back to me, with a courier, at no cost to me.

What is absolutely despicable about this is the arrogant accusation that I had damaged the unit. I am an airline pilot, and understand that looking after mechanical devices is in one's best interest....

If you deal with Generators SA, you will have zero after-sales service, and anything wrong with the unit will immediately be your fault, and you will have to sort it out.

I know Abdul will write a scathing denial about this, but the above is what happened and absolutely factual.

Deal with them at your absolute peril.
