Worst decision moving to GEMS from Discovery
In December 2023 I sent in my application forms to join GEMS medical aid. After cancelling Discovery (never had any issues with them) On 19 December 2023, I received an SMS that my application had been accepted after persal cut-off date. Should I wish to join as of 1 February 2023 with a single deduction I must contact GEMS by 7 January 2023. On the 4th of January at 15:06 I phoned GEMS to inform them that I would like to join as of the 1st of February. I was assured that the request was sent to the relevant department. On 16 January I sent an email to confirm if changes were made as per the telephone conversation. No response was received. On the 19th of January, I sent another email... AGAIN no response! On the 20th of January, I phoned to confirm. I was told that it hasn't been attended to, even though I was well in my time to inform GEMS. However, they will make an urgent request. On the 23rd of January, I phoned again! Same story! Again an immediate request was made. On 24 January, I received a confirmation email that my registration has been completed and benefits will be from 1 February 2024 On the 7th of February, I noticed on my payslip that double the amount had been deducted from my salary. I immediately phoned GEMS. I was informed that this is from the department's side. I contacted the department and they assured me that GEMS needs to sort this out. I have been sending numerous emails/phone calls etc for the past week and yet again, absolutely NO feedback!!! I am shocked by the way that customer service happens and absolutely no assistance is given. I have tried contacting GEMS via email and social media. Social media respond I must email the enquiries. Upon replying saying I've emailed that address 15x, my comments get deleted!
Due to this double deduction, with absolutely no communication, I am in areas with my house bond. Is this going to be rectified by GEMS? I was well within my timeframe and following the right process by communicating, yet I just didn't get any assistance or help.
All proof regarding phonecalls/SMSs and reference numbers I have! 2 months almost, and absolutely no response. I've contacted the ombudsman as well as the council for medical schemes as this is getting out of hand!
