Wheelchair approval not forth comming

<p>Good day</p> <p>Mr. Wheelchair submitted an invoice for a wheelchair and cushion on 23 January 2017 (which is only valid for 30 days) for approval and payment. I also submitted the same invoice and clinical motivation from my GP directly to the appliance division for approval and payment. I received an automated receipt from the appliance division. I send a follow up e-mail to the appliance division requested a status report, once again only received a automated receipt, talking to the call centre agent also healed no results.</p> <p>A)Why does it take this long to approve the purchase of a wheelchair which is used 16 hours a day, 365 days a year, where hundreds of thousands of rand of hospital bills are settled in a relatively short period, but approval for devices that are required for mobility seems not to be apriority for GEMS and their administrators (Medscheme).</p> <p>B) I am in possession of a email send in August of 2016 to one of the suppliers of wheelchair that state that GEMS only pay up to R5 000.00 for a wheelchair even though I have about R15 000.00 available for external devices, is this true and if so why?</p> <p>In my case, due to obesity there is no wheelchair that can curry my weight for under R5 000.00.</p> <p>I trust there will be no need for me to escalate this issues to the Council of Medical schemes. I will appreciate your positive non pro-forma response in due course.</p> <p> </p>
