Waiting period that doesn’t make sense

Is it just GEMS or are all medical aids like this? I’d been with GEMS since 2014 until covid-19 then had to cancel due to financial constraints. When I reapp**** last year, I realised l was pregnant and now my pregnancy won’t be covered because there’s a waiting period?! All my gynae visit claims were rejected and I’m not sure I understand this rule because if only after giving birth I will also automatically add my child to the plan and continue paying for me and my kids.
