Unlike members, service providers have no choice but to deal with GEMS.
Let me regale you with my thrilling adventures as a service provider navigating the wild, untamed jungle that is GEMS.
Up until a month ago, my feelings towards GEMS were as neutral as a Switzerland postcard—until their alleged racial ************** scandal turned the whole affair into a bit of a circus. Who knew healthcare could be so entertaining?

Anyway, I found myself in dire need of updating my practice details with GEMS. Apparently, providing top-notch service to GEMS members hinges on proper documentation—who would’ve thought? So, armed with determination and a sprinkle of blind optimism, I went to battle through every avenue GEMS offered: the app, emails, and the illustrious call center. Spoiler alert: it’s like navigating a maze blindfolded while juggling flaming swords.
The automated response system? Now that’s a real showstopper! It performs with consistent timing, but the promises it makes? Let’s just say they’re about as reliable as a chocolate teapot. Timelines, reference numbers, names of contact people—totally useless! It’s as if the universe is laughing at us as we flail around for service that never quite materializes.
And honestly, is anyone surprised by GEMS' dismal 1-star HelloPeter rating? It’s almost impressive in its own right.
This situation begs a few questions that keep rattling around in my head:
- Is the IT department currently in a staring contest with the app and website, hoping one of them blinks and decides to be helpful? - Are GEMS staff trained to do their jobs or just handed a how-to manual for advanced frustration? - Does a culture of service delivery even exist at GEMS, or is it merely an urban legend alongside unicorns and Sasquatch?
Oh well, to each their own. Just remember, government employees are free to pick their poison when it comes to health insurance… and GEMS doesn’t seem to be the chosen elixir for many. Cheers!

That is not acceptable.
I will now follow "Jaco's" example and approach CMS as a first step

And similar to " Jaco's" case, https://www.hellopeter.com/gems-government-employees-medical-scheme/reviews/gems-ly-withholding-payment-to-practice-***#, you treat me with the same, automated, useless reply: "We regret that we could not resolve your complaint within the timelines previously communicated. We will provide feedback as soon as we have concluded our investigation."
Judging by GEMS inability to stick to its own timeline commitments and an automated telephone and email system that hinders communication, GEMS poor HelloPeter rating is well deserved.

I note with concern the recurring issue of FICA non-compliance reported by a growing number of service providers, myself included. Despite repeated submissions of the required documentation, GEMS has been consistently unable to resolve these matters.
This situation raises several serious questions:
* Is the failure to resolve FICA non-compliance and subsequently delay payments an intentional strategy by GEMS to reduce its financial obligations to practitioners?
* If this is a result of a skills shortage within the relevant departments, what specific steps is GEMS taking to address this through training and development?
* The stark contrast between the helpfulness of the front-line staff and the lack of support from other departments points to a significant internal operational and cultural disconnect. What is GEMS' Human Resources department doing to address this discrepancy?
This morning, I received a communication from GEMS indicating that my FICA issue had been resolved. Unfortunately, this was a false confirmation, which led to another round of unproductive emails and phone calls, and more automated responses.
The continued inability to perform basic administrative functions and provide accurate information aligns with GEMS’ consistently low service ratings.
I, and the rest of my colleagues, expect a prompt and effective resolution to these ongoing issues.
