Unfair waiting period

My wife and I are both public servants, and have been members of GEMS. I have been a main member since 2009 and my wife, was a main member in 2014 and 2015, before becoming a dependent on my medical aid when got married. Since then, we have both been members, without interruption.

As of 1 April 2020, I will no longer be working in the public service, and as such I had to terminate myself as a main member. We opted for my wife to change from dependent to main member and for me to change from main member to dependent.

As such, there has been NO BREAK IN MEMBERSHIP. I find it disappointing then, that a waiting period was then imposed on us. There has been no interruption of membership, or payments received.

Please can you address this issue. We were told in numerous telephonic conversations with GEMS call center consultants, that there would not be waiting period, as it was not a new membership or break in membership, but a changing of main member and dependent status.
