Underwritting

With reference to the above mentioned subject i would like clarity on the 3 months waiting period that ive been put on upon joining GEMS.

I have read the underwritting procedures on www.gems.gov.za and it states:

The Scheme will impose a three-month general and/or twelve-month condition-specific waiting period from 1 October 2016 on the following member categories: Principal members who resign from the Scheme with their dependants (without also resigning from the Public Service) and then re-join the Scheme at a later stage. I was a principal member at GEMS in 2017 of which at the same year 31 December my contract ended and i resigned from the scheme. Because of this I would like to believe the waiting period does not apply to me (subject to more clarification). I resigned from the scheme as i also resigned (end of contract) from the public service as a result i was not recieving any subsidy from the government. Now they are telling me that my case is closed bcz i cancelled membership without considering the reasons for cancellation and whether i was working or not. On their underwritting it simply states that if an employee cancels membership because of unemployment then when they rejoin...no waiting period will be app**** but in my case they have given me a waiting period and they refuse to hear my story. They have never even contacted me to hear my story after i wrote them an email with my enquiry.

I really feel like i have been treated unfairly.
