Taking long to authorize trauma patients needs
I have been with GEMS since 2011. On the 27 September 20 we got ****** with my family. Than 911 ambulance took me to hospital. Dr discovered that I have C1 fracture and the solution for this will be the halo braces. The medical aid approved the application of the halo braces but until today no authorization on paying the supply of the braces. I have been in ICU for 9 dayz lying on my back, no turning can't do anything for myself. I am so traumatized because I still have blood under my hair of which no ways of cutting my hair without the approved support which is the halo braces. I am so stressed and in so much paint

07 Oct 2020, 07:53Thank you for your response. I am not pleased at all about the 7 dayz feedback. This the matter of emergency and it needs attention as soon as possible. I don't understand that after lying on my back in ICU for Ten day you say I still have to wait another 7days??????? Is that what emergency means at gems?? Is that how gems treat trauma patients who can't do anything for themselves but lying down with a broken neck for Ten day????? I am still confused and you are adding more trauma than helping me here

08 Oct 2020, 20:06Its been a long day, calling gems waiting for their responses but I am still unhappy. I am still lying on the bed with broken neck. Finally today I was told that for Halo braces that are required to support my neck so that I will be able to sit or walk again, as they cost R43 000 Gems will only pay R2300 the rest they don't cover. This it the maximum they can pay for the appliances. So I now had to pay R40 700. I am so disappointed to have such type of medical aid who doesn't care about their clients. Gems doesn't care about the conditions of their clients.
